AceShowbiz - Macklemore has enraged social media users with his behavior at a recent concert. The "Glorious" rapper, who has publicly voiced his support for Palestine, was urged to leave the United States after leading an anti-America chant when he was onstage.
On Sunday, September 22, the 41-year-old Seattle native, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, became a hot topic on X, formerly known as Twitter. Social media users were reacting to him publicly showing that he dislikes the country despite finding his success there.
On the social media platform, one user uploaded a video from Macklemore's concert. In the 16-second clip, it could be seen that he was taking the stage at the Palestine Will Live Forever Festival in Seattle on Saturday night, September 21. The festival was held to benefit a charity, which is known as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, for Palestinian refugees.
In the short footage, Macklemore was documented talking to concertgoers. While walking around the stage, he said, "Straight up, say it," seemingly encouraging the audience members to get things off their chest about the country. He then assured them, "I'm not gonna stop you."
The rapper, who joined forces with Kesha (Ke$ha) to create a collaborative song titled "Good Old Days", went on to reiterate, "I'm not gonna stop you." He calmly stated, "Yeah f**k America," prompting the concertgoers to scream out loud and clap hands.
It did not take long for the never-before-seen video to be flooded with negative responses from X users, including those who told him to leave the country if he doesn't like it. In the replies section of the tweet, one in particular wrote, "If you hate this country, then get tf out. Go find one that represents your ideals. American doesn't want or need your trash here." The comment received more than 4,000 likes.
Similarly, another pointed out, "If you hate this country, there's nothing preventing you from leaving." A third stated, "Shame. This country made Macklemore possible. Where else could he have got rich and famous?? Shame." A fourth sarcastically penned, "Born in America, got famous in America, still lives in America," adding a clown emoji.
