With the beloved sitcom's 30th anniversary approaching, the creators of 'Friends' have broken their silence on long-standing rumors of a potential reboot.

AceShowbiz - Creators Kevin Bright, Martha Kauffman, and executive producer David Crane revealed in an interview with "Today" that discussions about a reboot have taken place, sparked by interest from a new generation of fans. They noted that many young viewers have expressed a desire to see the show continue with the grown-up children of the original characters.
Kauffman explained that they have received numerous emails suggesting a reboot with the characters' offspring. Almost all of the six main characters became parents before the show ended in 2004, with Ross having two children, Phoebe adopting triplets, and Monica and Chandler adopting twins.
While the creators acknowledged the appeal of these ideas, Crane expressed reluctance. He compared the prospect of a reboot to the feeling of watching one's child turn 30 and being amazed by the passage of time.
However, Warner Bros. TV Group chairman Channing Dungey previously stated that any potential revival would need a compelling reason. As of now, there are no concrete plans for a "Friends" reboot, although the cast previously reunited for an HBO Max special in 2021.
The creators also reflected on the tragic loss of Matthew Perry, who passed away in 2022 at age 54. They spoke of his determination in battling his illness and the sense of loss his passing brought to the group.
Despite the absence of imminent reboot plans, "Friends" continues to captivate audiences through streaming platforms, reaching a vast younger audience. Fans can look forward to celebrating the show's 30th anniversary on September 22, while fondly remembering the legacy of Matthew Perry.
