AceShowbiz - Halle Berry, celebrated actress and mother of two, recently opened up about the challenges of parenting in the face of her daughter Nahla's first heartbreak at 16. "It's never easy watching your child go through tough emotions," said Berry. "As a self-proclaimed 'mama bear,' it's hard to see her hurting."
Berry emphasized that her role as a mother is to "hold space" for her children, "nurture them, and provide them with opportunities." However, she also recognizes that her children's journey is ultimately their own. "I don't expect to influence who they become," she said.
Berry shared that she relates to her daughter's pain, having experienced similar heartache in her own adolescence. "We've all been there," she said. "But in this moment, it's the most important thing to them, and it can feel like the end of the world."
Despite her desire to shield her daughter from pain, Berry knows that heartbreak is a part of growing up. "I have to remind myself that this is all part of the process," she said. "It's hard to resist the urge to say 'I told you so,' but I know it won't help."
Berry's approach is to provide comfort and validation. "I just have to say, 'Yeah, this sucks,' " she explained. "I can't tell her I understand because she won't believe me. But I can sit with her and show her that I'm there for her."
Berry also shares 10-year-old son Maceo with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. She hopes to instill in her children the confidence and tools they need to navigate life's challenges. "I want them to know that I believe in them," she said. "I'm excited to see who they become, even if it's not what I had in mind. Anything they do will make me proud as long as they do it with passion."
