AceShowbiz - In the upcoming film "Mickey 17", Robert Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes, a space colonist known as an "Expendable." Expendables take on the most dangerous jobs the colony has to offer, often dying in the process. However, thanks to human printing technology, they are brought back to life repeatedly.
Edward Ashton's 2022 novel "Mickey 7" inspired the film, but the number has been increased to 17 for the movie. Director Bong Joon Ho has stated that he killed Pattinson's character 10 more times than indicated by the title.
Pattinson plays both Mickey 17 and Mickey 18 in the story. At CinemaCon, he revealed that he gave each Mickey different characteristics, with Mickey 17 being beaten down by life but happy to be part of the team, while Mickey 18 is like an "evil brother" who is out of control.
The film's long-awaited trailer shows a glimpse of Mickey's various deaths, including drowning, falling into a ravine, and being shot. Despite his numerous experiences with dying, Mickey doesn't seem to have an easy answer when asked about it.
However, the trailer takes a surprising turn when Mickey finds another Mickey alive, a situation that was never supposed to happen. Adapted from Ashton's novel, "Mickey 17" marks Bong Joon Ho's first film since his Oscar-winning "Parasite" in 2019.
The film's international cast also includes Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Naomie Ackie and Toni Collette. It is scheduled to hit theaters on January 31, 2025.
