Plaza remembered, "It happened mid-sentence. I walked into their apartment - I hadn't even taken my jacket off - and it just happened." This sudden stroke left her paralyzed for a brief moment, stripping her of the ability to talk and use motor skills.
The actress conveyed the surreal nature of the experience, recalling her confusion and the disbelief of the paramedics, who initially suspected drug use. Plaza was eventually diagnosed with a stroke at the hospital and spent a considerable time in cognitive therapy before returning to her studies at New York University.
In a 2017 interview with NPR's "Fresh Air," Plaza detailed a minor recurrent issue, describing transient ischemic attacks, or "tiny little strokes," since the initial episode. Such health challenges have undeniably shaped her resilient spirit and approach to life.
Plaza, now 40, was recently spotted using crutches in New York City due to an ACL injury while playing basketball during the WNBA All-Star Weekend.
