AceShowbiz - The fourth and final season of The CW's "Superman & Lois" will premiere on October 7th and promises several surprises, including the introduction of a major character from the comics. Co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher remained tight-lipped about the character's identity but expressed surprise at securing the rights to use them.
"We were able to use a pretty significant character from the comics," Helbing said. "You'll hear their name drop, see it more frequently, and eventually meet them."
While the mystery character remains unknown, it is confirmed that it is not played by "The Flash" alum Tom Cavanagh. Cavanagh will instead portray a different role, which Helbing described as "the easiest casting of all time."
"It's a character that seems to have been created specifically for Tom Cavanagh," Helbing said.
Cavanagh, a veteran of "The Flash," previously portrayed various characters in the series, including Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash and multiple incarnations of Harrison Wells.
Season 4 of "Superman & Lois" will also see the arrival of Douglas Smith as Jimmy Olsen. The season will explore the aftermath of Superman's battle with Doomsday and tease the classic "Death of Superman" storyline. Despite rumors, Cavanagh will not appear in the series finale, but co-star Elizabeth Tulloch teased a "different surprise guest" for that episode.
The showrunners praised the upcoming season, with Tulloch describing the premiere as "bananas" and "emotional." The CW's president of entertainment, Brad Schwartz, called the final episodes "Emmy-worthy."
Despite taking place in a different universe, "Superman & Lois" has featured cameos from Arrowverse characters such as John Diggle and Lucy Lane. The final season promises to deliver more guest appearances than any previous season.
