AceShowbiz - Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin took aim at the "Dancing with the Stars" casting of convicted fraudster Anna Delvey, who is currently under house arrest for violating the terms of her visa.
On Thursday, September 5 episode of "The View," Goldberg questioned ICE's decision to permit Delvey to participate, noting that others arrested by the agency have had difficulty securing their release. "Is there a two-tiered system with ICE?" she asked.
Hostin criticized Delvey's casting, saying she defrauded people and committed another crime by overstaying her visa. "What is the consequence? A bejeweled ankle monitor and a spot on a television show?" she asked.
Griffin agreed that con artists tend to remain con artists, and warned Delvey's fellow "DWTS" castmates to be cautious of Delvey's "schemes."
Goldberg expressed frustration that Delvey was given an opportunity while many others struggle to overcome their past. "This is an ugh in the face of people who are trying to make their way back," she said.
Delvey's casting comes as she faces deportation proceedings. She gained notoriety in 2019 for posing as a wealthy heiress and swindling thousands of dollars from various people and establishments. She served two years in prison before being released on parole and subsequently taken into custody by ICE.
Delvey hasn't responded to 'The View' hosts' criticisms, she's aware of the public's backlash. "It's just not that serious. If someone is that upset about casting on a dancing show, I don't know what to tell them," she recently brushed off her critics.
Other contestants on the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars" include former NFL player Danny Amendola, "The Bachelor" alum Joey Graziadei, and NBA veteran Dwight Howard.
