AceShowbiz - Katy Perry has defended her decision to work with controversial music producer Dr. Luke on her sixth studio album, "143." Despite criticism from fans due to Dr. Luke's past with Kesha (formerly Ke$ha), Perry insists that the decision was rooted in her personal experiences.
On the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Perry explained that the 11-track album is based on her own perspectives and experiences, with Dr. Luke merely facilitating the creative process. "The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis," she said.
Perry emphasized her feelings of empowerment as a mother and the themes of creation and birth present on her new single "Woman's World", which was produced by Dr. Luke. She added that she collaborated with various other creatives, including past collaborators from her "Teenage Dream" era.
Addressing the controversy surrounding Dr. Luke, Perry stated that she understands the conversations it has sparked. She clarified that her album includes songs written and produced by Dr. Luke, but stressed that the project is ultimately a reflection of her own experiences and perspectives.
Despite backlash on social media, Perry remains steadfast in her decision to work with Dr. Luke. "I created all of this from a place of celebration and love," she said. "I don't feel like I have to prove anything anymore."
Dr. Luke and Perry have collaborated in the past on several of her hit songs, including "California Gurls" and "Dark Horse". The release of "143" is scheduled for September 20, 2023. Perry is also set to perform at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, where she will receive the Video Vanguard Award.
