Swinton, Moore and Pedro Almodovar's latest collaboration 'The Room Next Door' has received thunderous applause and critical acclaim at the Venice Film Festival as the stars dazzle on the red carpet.

AceShowbiz - At the world premiere of "The Room Next Door", the trio of Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore and Pedro Almodovar were greeted with a 17-minute standing ovation, the longest of the 2024 edition. The Spanish auteur kissed the actresses' cheeks and raised their arms like champions before descending the stairs to shake hands with fans.
The film, an adaptation of Sigrid Nunez's novel "What Are You Going Through", follows best-selling writer Ingrid (Moore) and war journalist Martha (Swinton), who rekindle their friendship amid Martha's terminal cancer diagnosis. As they delve into their past, Martha expresses her desire for a dignified death and requests Ingrid's support.
Swinton and Moore lauded Almodovar's directorial vision, with Moore emphasizing the film's focus on female friendship, a rarely explored theme in cinema. Almodovar stated his pro-euthanasia stance, arguing for the right to control one's own life and death.
At the press conference, Moore described the film as a love story between Ingrid and Martha and a meditation on evolution and the state of the planet. Swinton highlighted its portrayal of self-determination and the importance of embracing mortality.
"The Room Next Door" is Almodovar's first English-language feature and features a cast that includes Alessandro Nivola, Juan Diego Botto and Raul Arevalo. The film will receive its U.S. premiere as the centerpiece selection for the New York Film Festival on October 4 and will open in theaters on December 20.
