AceShowbiz - Following a positive reception at the Venice International Film Festival, "Maria" screened at the Telluride Film Festival on Monday, September 2 receiving an enthusiastic standing ovation from festivalgoers. Angelina Jolie was reportedly visibly moved by the response, covering her mouth and placing a hand on her chest to express her gratitude.
During a post-screening panel, Jolie spoke candidly about the anxiety she experienced tackling the musical role. Despite receiving seven months of opera classes, great teachers, and Italian classes, she was "so nervous" on her first day singing on set.
Jolie also revealed that she had previously been discouraged from singing by an ex-boyfriend, saying, "It was an out-of-body experience because I don't sing... I had somebody in my life who was not kind to me about singing. It was a relationship I was in. And so I just assumed I couldn't really sing."
Jolie praised her collaboration with director Pablo LarraÃn, expressing that she felt supported and appreciated his guidance. She also discussed the challenges of working on "heavy moments" on set with her sons, Maddox and Pax, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt.
While "Maria" does not yet have a release date, it is expected to receive a wider release on Netflix. Despite these accolades, Jolie's ex-husband, Brad Pitt, has faced harsh criticism for his new film "Wolfs," which also premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
