The NFL rookie wide receiver has been injured and rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest following a physical brawl with a robbery suspect in San Francisco.

AceShowbiz - San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in an attempted robbery. The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) reported that the shooting took place on Saturday, August 31, around 3:37 p.m. in the vicinity of Geary Street and Grant Avenue in Union Square.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Pearsall, 23, and another male suffering from injuries. Both were transported to San Francisco General Hospital for further evaluation.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an attempted robbery led to a physical altercation, during which both Pearsall and the suspect sustained injuries. The suspect has been taken into custody, and charges are pending. "The investigation is ongoing and active," the SFPD noted.

The San Francisco 49ers provided an update late on Saturday, August 31, confirming on X (formerly Twitter) that Pearsall "sustained a bullet wound to the chest and is in serious but stable condition." They requested privacy for Pearsall and his family during this time. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family," the team added.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed also confirmed the news on X, writing, "This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot. SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them."

Pearsall's teammate and fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel shared a positive update on X, stating, "He's good. Thank god!!!!" indicating that Pearsall is recovering.

Pearsall, picked 31st overall in the NFL draft earlier this year, had recently joined the 49ers after playing for the Arizona State Sun Devils and then transferring to the University of Florida for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Unfortunately, the rookie did not participate in any preseason games due to a shoulder subluxation, a recurring injury from his college days.

The 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan shared in an interview that Pearsall's shoulder injury, sustained on August 6, is relatively common amongst players, and expressed optimism about his recovery.

The 49ers are set to kick off their season on Monday, September 9, at Levi's Stadium, facing off against the New York Jets. Fans and teammates alike are hopeful for Pearsall's swift recovery and potential debut in the upcoming NFL season.
