AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie has channeled the essence of Maria Callas in her fashion choices, honoring the legendary opera singer she plays in Pablo Larrain's biopic "Maria". At the Venice International Film Festival, Jolie graced the red carpet in a Tamara Ralph chiffon gown and a faux fur stole, reminiscent of Callas's glamorous style.
However, the most striking accessory was an iconic brooch that once belonged to Callas herself. According to Vogue, many of Callas's brooches are now housed in the Cartier Collection, and the film's costume designer, Massimo Cantini Parrini, collaborated with Cartier to incorporate some of her finest jewelry into the film.
Jolie, who wore the real brooch on the red carpet, explained that it was a nod to Callas not only during the premiere but also throughout the movie. The flower-shaped "Rose Ouvrante" brooch features diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, and rubies, and has a unique mechanism that allows the petals to open and close.
"I was also charmed at how it transformed from a closed flower that then blooms," Jolie told Vogue. "I like to think it made her smile."
Earlier at the festival, Jolie paired a black Atelier Jolie dress with a 1971 "Panthère" brooch, also featuring precious gemstones and the iconic Cartier panthers. This brooch made an appearance in the biopic as well. "You can imagine how special it was to wear a piece of jewelry that was hers," Jolie said.
Jolie has expressed a deep connection to Callas, whose vulnerability and emotional depth resonate with her. "I think the way I related to her may be a surprise," she said at a press conference. "It was probably the part of her that's extremely soft and doesn't have room in the world to be as soft as she truly was."
"Maria" explores the life of Callas, known for her tumultuous romances, artistic triumphs, and tragic demise. Jolie has immersed herself in the world of opera to portray the enigmatic star accurately.
