AceShowbiz - Emerging this September on Paramount+, "Apartment 7A" takes viewers back to the mysterious Bramford apartment building, but several years before the Woodhouses moved in. The film centers on the character Terry Gionoffrio, portrayed by three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner, known for her role in "Ozark". Set in 1965, the movie follows Terry, an aspiring dancer whose dreams of Broadway stardom take a dark turn.
After a severe foot injury derails her career plans, Terry is taken in by the seemingly kind elderly couple, the Castevets (played by Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally). The couple promises to revive her dreams, but as Terry settles into her new home, sinister occurrences begin to unravel.
According to the official synopsis, "When fellow resident and influential Broadway producer (Jim Sturgess) offers her another chance at fame, it seems that all her dreams are finally coming true. However, after an evening she can't fully remember, disturbing circumstances soon have her second-guessing the sacrifices she's willing to make for her career as she realizes that something evil is living not only in Apartment 7A, but in the Bramford itself."
Fans of the original film will find numerous visual nods to the 1968 classic while newcomers are promised a slew of fresh, eerie elements. The movie paints a suspenseful narrative highlighted by scenes of Terry experiencing unsettling visions and feeling a mysterious presence within her, all culminating in a chilling climax hinted at in the haunting trailer. One of the characters chillingly warns, "They did ungodly things to her, and now they've chosen you," giving a sense of the dire predicament Terry finds herself in.
Directed by Natalie Erika James and produced by industry big names such as John Krasinski and Michael Bay, the film is a Platinum Dunes/Sunday Night Production. The supporting cast includes Marli Siu, Andrew Buchan, Rosy McEwen, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, adding depth and intrigue to the already compelling storyline.
"Apartment 7A" is set to stream exclusively on Paramount+ starting September 27, though it will also be available for purchase on other digital platforms. Horror aficionados and "Rosemary's Baby" fans alike will not want to miss this thrilling prequel that promises to be both nostalgic and brand-new.
