AceShowbiz - The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) will host its annual Art + Film Gala on November 2, 2023, honoring renowned filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and artist Simone Leigh. The evening will feature a performance by pop sensation Charli XCX.
Luhrmann, known for his groundbreaking work in film, opera, and theater, will be celebrated for his bold and imaginative cinematic style. His acclaimed films include "Strictly Ballroom", "Romeo + Juliet", "Moulin Rouge" and the recent biopic "Elvis".
Leigh, a groundbreaking artist whose work explores themes of identity, history, and representation, will be honored for her contributions to contemporary art. Her sculptures, videos, and installations have been exhibited globally, including at the Venice Biennale and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
Charli XCX, the "Brat" behind chart-topping hits like "Boom Clap" and "Boys", will entertain guests with a special performance at the gala.
Co-chaired by Eva Chow and Leonardo DiCaprio, the Art + Film Gala is one of Los Angeles' most prestigious events, attracting Hollywood's elite, media leaders, and fashion icons. The event, presented by Gucci for the 13th year, raises funds to support LACMA's ongoing expansion project and film programs.
"Simone Leigh is one of the most captivating and important voices in contemporary art, brilliantly melding an array of different artistic traditions and centering Black femme subjects in powerful and moving ways," LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael said in a statement. "Baz Luhrmann has crafted an emotional cinematic oeuvre over three decades, driven by his imagination and passion. We are excited to honor him alongside Simone and celebrate their remarkable careers."
