Afa's daughter, Vale Anoa'i, announced the news on Friday, sharing that her father had a peaceful passing surrounded by loved ones. Despite facing numerous health challenges in recent months, including two heart attacks and various surgeries, Afa fought bravely until the end.
Vale paid tribute to her father's strength and resilience, recounting the numerous obstacles he had overcome. She expressed gratitude for the lessons he taught her and the unconditional love he always provided.
Afa, who made up one-half of the legendary tag team The Wild Samoans, alongside his brother Sika Anoa'i, enjoyed a successful career in professional wrestling. The duo dominated the industry in the 1970s and 1980s, claiming three WWF World Tag Team Championships.
Beyond WWE, The Wild Samoans left their mark on promotions such as Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). Afa later transitioned into a managerial role, guiding The Headshrinkers tag team, which featured his son Samu and nephew Fatu (Rikishi).
Afa's passing was confirmed by his son, Samu Anoa'i, in a heartfelt Facebook post. The wrestling icon had been battling health issues over the past year, including heart and back surgery.
