AceShowbiz - Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, 47, and actress Dakota Johnson, 34, have allegedly called it quits after seven years together. According to a report from Daily Mail, the couple concluded that their relationship is "over" and have decided it is best to move on.
Despite the breakup buzz, Johnson's rep told The Post later Friday, August 16, "The reports are not true. They are happily together."
The former couple reportedly separated due to their hectic schedules and busy lives. Martin is currently touring Europe with Coldplay for their Music of the Spheres World Tour while Johnson was seen in Malibu without her engagement ring in early August.
Sources told Daily Mail, "Chris and Dakota have tried desperately hard over the past few months to make their relationship work. They'll always have love for each other, but they've both come to the conclusion the relationship cannot be sustained long-term."
Throughout their relationship, Martin and Johnson managed to keep their romance relatively private. They started dating in 2017, following Martin's divorce from actress Gwyneth Paltrow, with whom he shares two children. The duo briefly split in 2019 but reconciled shortly afterward. Rumors about their possible breakup had circulated before, including back in May this year when a fan claimed Martin was "single."
Despite these ups and downs, Johnson had made rare comments about Martin, notably crediting him with helping her through a period of depression in November 2023. She also expressed her deep affection for Martin's children, describing her stepmom role as significant to her life. In an interview with Bustle, she said, "I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart."
Neither Martin nor Johnson has publicly commented on the latest breakup reports. The couple, who had been engaged since early this year, reportedly have accepted that their career commitments and personal priorities do not naturally align, making a long-term relationship difficult to maintain. "They wanted it to work but it just hasn't, and they've now accepted it is best to move on," a source concluded.
