After three years of failing to file tax returns, the Yeezy designer's Sunday Service gospel choir has lost its charity status, leaving it to fend for itself.

AceShowbiz - In 2019, Kanye West founded Sunday Service, a gospel-inspired musical choir, with the intention of spreading his Christian message. The organization was initially granted tax exemption as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. However, according to the IRS website, Sunday Service's charity status was revoked on May 15, 2024, due to its failure to file a Form 990-series return or notice for three consecutive years.
West, who has not been pictured at a Sunday Service session since June 2023, reportedly invested heavily in the choir, spending an estimated $50 million on its promotion. However, he has since appeared to distance himself from the group, leaving choir director Jason White to oversee its operations.
Legal issues have also plagued Sunday Service. In 2020, previous performers and staff filed class action lawsuits against West, alleging mistreatment, underpayment, and denied meal and restroom breaks. West reportedly settled one of these lawsuits for $1.35 million in June 2023.
In addition to the loss of its charity status, West has been facing unrelated tax problems. He reportedly owes millions in unpaid taxes on multiple properties across the United States, including his former Wyoming ranch.
While Sunday Service no longer enjoys its tax-exempt status, the choir is still operating and has released a second album, "Sample Sounds," in 2022. However, it is facing financial challenges and is seeking support through its website.
The loss of charity status and ongoing legal disputes have cast a shadow over Sunday Service, which was once a personal passion project for Kanye West. As the group continues without its founder's direct involvement, its future remains uncertain.
