AceShowbiz - Michael Rubin, the CEO of Fanatics, sat down with "The Breakfast Club" on Wednesday, August 14 to discuss the rumor that he banned Kendrick Lamar's Billboard Hot 100-topping diss track "Not Like Us" from his annual July 4th All-White party. Rubin confirmed the rumor, explaining that he thought it was inappropriate to play music from an artist who was feuding with someone in attendance, namely Drake.
Rubin defended his decision, stating that Drake is a "friend for a long time" and that he didn't want to make him uncomfortable. He added that he had sent a note to the DJ requesting that they not play any music from artists feuding with guests.
However, Rubin admitted that "Not Like Us" did play during a BBQ the day before the party, which was supposed to be a small gathering but turned into a 10-hour event. When the song came on, Rubin scrambled to get someone to skip it because Drake was on his way.
Social media speculated about Drake's facial expressions during the party, but Rubin dismissed these rumors, saying that Drake "had a great time." He added that Drake is a "tough" artist who understands that people will come after him.
Rubin's decision has been met with mixed reactions. Some praised him for being a loyal friend, while others criticized him for intervening in a rap feud. However, Rubin defended his actions, stating that he simply wanted to make sure Drake felt comfortable at the party.
