AceShowbiz - Ashanti appears to be unfazed by Nelly's legal drama as she is currently expecting their first child together. The pregnant singer continues to bask in her mother's recent birthday celebration in the wake of her boyfriend's arrest.
On Wednesday, August 7, around the same time Nelly was taken into custody in St. Charles, Missouri, the R&B artist made use of her Instagram page to share photos from her mother's birthday celebration. In the photos, the 43-year-old looked radiant in a baby blue dress with a halter neck and a high slit while flaunting her baby bump.
Ashanti posed with her mother, who shone in her red gown, as well as other family members. Nelly, meanwhile, was noticeably absent in the images and videos posted by the "Foolish" songstress.
In the caption, Ashanti wrote, "Recap mom's bday. This was such a special night. Happy birthday again mom. I love you more than anything." She also revealed that the soiree took place last month, on July 13 to be exact.
While she has taken to social media to give an update on her family affair, Ashanti remains mum on Nelly's arrest. The rapper was taken into custody at a casino by the Maryland Heights Police Department on Wednesday morning, at around 4:45 A.M. local time.
He was cited with possession of a controlled substance after officers allegedly found him with four ecstasy pills. A spokesperson for the law agency confirmed that the 49-year-old was arrested inside the Hollywood Casino in St. Charles, Mo., after they ran a background check and found an outstanding warrant for not having proof of insurance from a previous traffic stop. He was also hit with the driving without proof of insurance charge, but he has yet to be formally charged pending an investigation from state prosecutors. Nelly was booked and later released from custody.
Following the arrest, Nelly's attorney blasted "overzealous" police, claiming that his client was "targeted." Scott Rosenblum, who represents the rapper, said in a statement, "After winning several jackpots, at a venue where Mr. Haynes frequently visits and entertains at its amphitheater; instead of just supervising the transfer of Mr. Haynes' winnings, this officer felt compelled to needlessly run a check for warrants."
Rosenblum added, "The officer informed Mr. Haynes a background check was mandated when a player won over a certain amount; Mr. Haynes knew this to be untrue as he had won several jackpots for similar or greater amounts including one just a week prior without incident or a background check."
The lawyer further alleged that the arresting officer "conducted a search without probable cause where he claimed to have found alleged 'ecstasy' in Mr. Haynes' personal property." He concluded, "I am 100 percent confident this case will go nowhere. And we will be asking for an inquiry into this officer's conduct."
