Amid recent tensions in the gymnastics world, MyKayla Skinner faces backlash from fans and peers, but finds unwavering support from her husband, Jonas Harmer.

AceShowbiz - The competitive world of gymnastics has recently seen an unexpected drama unfold between MyKayla Skinner and Simone Biles, two of the sport's prominent figures. Following an Instagram video where she asked Biles to help stop cyberbullying against her, Skinner's husband Jonas Harmer expressed his support for her as she navigates the backlash.

"Proud of you for apologizing when you did, staying quiet when you did, and now standing up for yourself," Harmer commented. "You're the strongest person I know!"

Skinner and Harmer, who married in 2019 and welcomed their daughter Charlotte in September 2023, have faced considerable tension recently. The root of the conflict emerged from Skinner's June comments in a since-deleted YouTube video, where she critiqued the current U.S. women's gymnastics team.

"Besides Simone, I feel like that talent and the depth just isn't what it used to be," said Skinner, alleging a lack of work ethic among today's athletes.

In a follow-up Instagram Story, Skinner clarified her comments, stating her intention was to reflect on her own experiences under the strict training regime of Márta Károlyi, 81, former national team coordinator for USA Gymnastics.

Despite her clarification and taking "100 percent responsibility for poorly articulating the point I was trying to make," Skinner received a mix of criticism and support.

The situation escalated when Biles subtly shaded Skinner in an Instagram post celebrating the team's gold medal win. "Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions [love] 🇺🇸," Biles captioned the post, which featured Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera. This prompted Skinner to express her dismay publicly, noting she was "heartbroken" over what she perceived as a misunderstanding.

Adding to the tension, some Team USA gymnasts expressed their views online. Suni Lee reposted Biles' caption with her own comment, "Put a finger down if Simone Biles just ended you." McKayla Maroney remarked, "It doesn't get more iconic than this. She f'd around n found out fr. Feels like I need to apologize just to redeem my first name."

Despite attempts to communicate and resolve the matter privately, Skinner ultimately blocked Biles on social media, which Jordan Chiles highlighted with her Instagram Story pic of Skinner's blank profile on Biles' phone.

Addressing the matter, Biles emphasized the importance of standing up for younger athletes, telling People, "It's important because you have to teach them to use their voices."

As this public drama unfolds, it highlights the intense pressures and complexities within competitive sports, and the crucial need for open, respectful dialogue among athletes.
