AceShowbiz - "Grey's Anatomy" is adding a new male gay character for season 21, following the departure of Jake Borelli, who played Dr. Levi Schmitt. According to TVLine, the role will be recurring and portray a chaplain at the hospital.
Borelli's exit was announced in May, after seven seasons on the show. He will appear in several episodes of the upcoming season to wrap up Schmitt's storyline.
The addition of the new character comes amidst other changes to "Grey's Anatomy" cast. Midori Francis is also leaving the drama after two seasons. However, Jason George will be returning as a series regular, reprising his role as Dr. Ben Warren.
Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, will have an increased role in season 21. She will appear in seven of the 18 episodes, with the potential for more. Pompeo had reduced her screen time in recent seasons to pursue other projects, including the Hulu limited series "Natalia".
The new gay character's arrival has raised questions about potential love interests, as there are currently no viable candidates on the show. However, ABC declined to comment on any further details.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 21 will premiere on ABC on September 26 at 10 P.M. ET.
