AceShowbiz - Kurt Titchenell, the leader of Jellyroll, a wedding band that has performed at thousands of events since 1980, filed a lawsuit in April against Jason DeFord, known as Jelly Roll, claiming trademark infringement. Titchenell claimed that Jelly Roll's increasing popularity had flooded the market with his name, making it difficult for prospective clients to find Titchenell's band.
However, in a court filing on Tuesday, July 9, Titchenell agreed to voluntarily drop the lawsuit permanently. In a statement, Titchenell said he had reached an "amicable agreement" with Jelly Roll and would continue using the name "Jellyroll Band" for his party band business.
According to Titchenell's attorney, Stephen Levin, Jelly Roll's lawyer did not sign the dismissal because the singer had not been served with the lawsuit. Levin stated that the matter had been "amicably resolved to the satisfaction of both parties."
Court documents do not indicate that a settlement was reached. The dismissal was not signed by Jelly Roll's attorneys, and a rep for the singer has not responded to a request for comment.
Jelly Roll, the country star, has discussed how his stage name came from his mother when he was a child. He launched his music career in the early 2000s, using the name Jelly Roll on mixtapes and albums.
