AceShowbiz - Nicolas Cage's son, Weston Coppola Cage, was arrested Wednesday, July 10 for assault with a deadly weapon. The 33-year-old was taken into custody at 7 A.M. local time and booked at 7:57 a.m.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, the arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred in April. However, the reason for the delay in his booking remains unclear.
It was reported that the arrest is related to a mental health crisis Weston allegedly experienced several weeks ago, during which he allegedly hit his mother, Christina Fulton. Pictures of Fulton taken at the time show a black eye and yellow bruises on her face. Sources told TMZ that the LAPD had been on the lookout for Weston after a physical altercation with his mother, which followed a heated verbal dispute.
Christina had reportedly been trying to console her son during an emotional moment before he allegedly turned on her. Weston then escaped his mother's house before the police arrived. Fulton later explained the incident in a statement, saying that she had been contacted by Weston's friends about his mental health crisis and that she had found him in a state of breakdown when she arrived.
Fulton concluded, "I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles. I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs." Fulton and Nicolas Cage, who were never married but dated from 1988 to 1991, share only Weston. Nicolas Cage has two other children, son Kal-El Cage, 18, with ex-wife Alice Kim, and daughter August, 1, with wife Riko Shibata.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Weston was no longer in custody after posting $150,000 bail. The bail was reportedly paid by his famous father, Nicolas Cage, though the actor has yet to publicly comment on the incident. Weston released a statement after his arrest, saying, "With the love of my family and the support of my brothers, I am going to get through this and come out on the other side a stronger person."
