AceShowbiz - The estranged wife of Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, has broken her silence on their divorce. A few weeks after the 9th Earl Spencer announced their split, Karen Spencer issued a statement on social media, saying that she's grateful for the "overwhelming" support she's received.
"Just wanted to say that I have been overwhelmed by the messages of love and support," the 52-year-old wrote on Instagram. "Thank you, it has really meant a lot to me."
"I'm just processing at the moment. Will come back to you soon," the Canadian social entrepreneur added. "Thought I'd share a few pics from last nights summer solstice gathering."
Charles confirmed his split from Karen earlier this month. "It is immensely sad," he told The Mail on Sunday. "I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future."
Their separation was reportedly announced to the staff at Althorp House, the historic English estate where Charles grew up alongside his sister, Princess Diana. That was also the place where the couple married on June 18, 2011.
The timing coincides with the writing of Charles' new memoir, which details his traumatic boarding school experiences and subsequent therapy. In his book, Charles sheds light on the emotional and sexual abuse he suffered when he's younger and his efforts to understand his relationship patterns through professional help.
The split marks the end of Karen's life at Althorp House, where she resided since their marriage. The couple shares a 12-year-old daughter, Charlotte Diana, named in honor of Princess Diana. Karen, a CEO of Whole Child International, also has two older daughters from her previous marriage to Hollywood producer Mark Gordon while Charles has six children from his two previous marriages.
