"Matty's engagement shocked her," a source has told RadarOnline.com. The 34-year-old singer/songwriter allegedly didn't expect her ex-boyfriend to be betrothed this soon since "he certainly wasn't the settling down type when Taylor was dating him."

"Part of Taylor wonders why Matty couldn't change sooner," the source added, noting that Taylor has no regret whatsoever as she "really is in love with [Travis Kelce]" now. The source claimed that the Grammy winner "hopes Matty has found true happiness as well."

Matty and Gabbriette made their engagement public after attending a concert by Charli XCX, whose drummer George Daniel is also engaged to Matty's bandmate. Gabbriette even shared a picture of her engagement ring on Instagram.

Confirming the news, the 1975 frontman's mother Denise Welch said in the June 12 episode of British talk show "Loose Women", "I obviously have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged ... They went over to see their friends Charli and George in New York [last night] and I woke up this morning to the fact they've put it on Instagram."

"Instagram official ... he's got engaged to Gabriella Bechtel - Gabbriette she's known as. Black diamond; he had it made for her," the actress/TV host continued. "I couldn't be more thrilled. We couldn't be happier - she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law. I'm thrilled."

Taylor and Matty had a whirlwind romance from April until June 2023, following her split from Joe Alwyn. When she released her latest album "The Tortured Poets Department", many fans speculated that the songs in the album are about the rocker.

As to how Matty reacted to the album, a friend of the musician told Us Weekly, "He loves the attention it's brought to him, [but] he also thinks it's hilarious because at no time [were they] ever serious." He was "completely blindsided" by certain lyrics suggesting they had discussed serious topics such as marriage and children. "For her to be saying things about baby carriages … and living together - he says it had never even come up," the insider added.
