In a new interview, the 'Savage' rapper, who has been busy amid her ongoing tour, opens up about her mom's passing and her own shift in prioritizing mental well-being.

AceShowbiz - Megan Thee Stallion has opened up about the loss of her mother and her mental health journey in a recent interview with L'Officiel. The 29-year-old rapper, who lost her mother Holly Thomas to brain cancer in March 2019, shared that she wishes her mother had sought help for her mental health struggles.

"I wish she would've talked to a therapist or something. I wish she could have been able to talk to somebody to just lessen that load or however she was feeling," Megan said.

Growing up, Megan said she didn't realize her family's financial hardships because her mother and grandmothers shielded her. "They made everything look so good. They made everything look so easy," she said. "It wasn't until I got older that I realized that we were not rich at all, and we were struggling, and I did need to get a job."

Since then, Megan has made mental health a priority. She said she has learned to process her emotions, spend time alone, and set boundaries. "When I got comfortable with myself, and being by myself, that's when I started having a new appreciation for myself," she said. "Once I [started] trusting myself and being nicer to myself and setting boundaries, my self-love kept rising."

Megan shared that she used to think therapy made her weak, but she now believes it is a sign of strength. "I don't think therapy makes me weak, even though I did for a long time because in the Black community, therapy to me meant you were crazy," she said.

In accepting the 2021 Glamour Woman of the Year Award, Megan became emotional as she thanked her mother for her upbringing. "I really want to thank my mom," she said. "I want to thank my mom because she taught me how to be the woman that I am. She was my best friend, my manager, she was my everything, and I know she's proud of me today."
