AceShowbiz - Tony McGregor, the father of former UFC champion Conor McGregor, was hospitalized following a heart attack on Thursday morning, May 16. Despite the alarming incident, Tony has shared a positive update on his recovery.
Tony, 64, experienced chest pains earlier Thursday and was swiftly taken to Hermitage Clinic in West Dublin. Following a successful procedure to have a stent inserted, Tony expressed his gratitude towards the cardiology team at the Hermitage, lauding their care as "the best ever."
On his Instagram story, Tony shared a photo from his hospital bed accompanied by the song "I'm Feelin' It" by Sunset Bros and Mark McCabe. He wrote, "Heart attack in the morning, stent in the afternoon, sweet (and) sour chicken in the evening. See ya later suckers."
This health scare comes at a critical time for his son Conor McGregor, who is intensely preparing for his highly anticipated return to the UFC octagon. Conor, who has been out of action since suffering a leg injury in a fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, is set to face Michael Chandler on June 29.
Conor's father has been a constant pillar of support throughout his career, maintaining a perfect attendance record at his son's fights. Tony's presence was notably key during Conor's bout in Abu Dhabi in January 2021. Thus, there is hope that Tony will be able to continue this tradition and be ringside in Las Vegas for Conor's comeback fight.
As for Conor McGregor, the former two-weight champion has chosen to remain in Dublin for his current fight camp, a departure from his previous practice of training abroad, such as in Iceland. His return to the octagon marks a crucial juncture in his career following a tumultuous period marked by various controversies, including arrests for driving offenses and an alleged assault during an NBA game last year.
The UFC star has also recently ventured into acting, making his debut alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Doug Liman's remake of the 1989 cult classic film "Road House". Despite some concerns over his well-being after a jittery, rambling interview at SXSW, Conor appears to be focusing on his preparations for the forthcoming fight.
Tony McGregor's positive outlook and swift recovery after a severe health incident offer a hopeful note for the McGregor family as they navigate this challenging period. Both father and son remain focused and resilient, ready to face their respective battles.
