"It bums me out for every woman and every person, that for no reason people just like to attack," McCarthy told Page Six.
McCarthy, known for her roles in "Bridesmaids" and "Gilmore Girls," praised Markle's intelligence and independence, noting that her success seems to trigger some people. "A smart interesting woman that has her own life, for some reason, is incredibly threatening to some people," she said.

The Broadway opening of "Suffs," a musical that explores the American women's suffrage movement, prompted McCarthy to reflect on the lack of knowledge about the history of women's rights. "It's really set me off into a wormhole of how much I really need to learn," she admitted. "It's made me appreciate who's come before me that's made my life and my daughters lives better."
