"Every fiber in my body hurts," she wrote. "Josh fought every single day for most of his adult life, for his life, but this past Sunday, the challenge was too great."

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Peterson shared a series of photos of her son and penned a moving tribute. She recalled Joshua-Michael's childhood, filled with intelligence, humor, and a love of sports and outdoor activities.

The cause of Joshua-Michael's death was not disclosed. However, Peterson alluded to his substance abuse struggles and the immense pain it caused him and his family.

Peterson expressed her gratitude to those who supported Joshua-Michael and offered words of encouragement, recognizing the challenges faced by those with addiction. She also mentioned her son's young daughter, Kennady, whom he leaves behind.

"Thank you to all of the people that have tried to help Josh along the way," she added. "Not everyone understands those suffering from substance abuse disorder, but I am forever grateful for your understanding and the impact you made on his life."

Separately, court documents have revealed that Joshua-Michael had a previous criminal record, including a conviction for shooting in Costa Mesa. He had been arrested several times in recent years for drug possession and probation violations.

Peterson appeared on the first eight seasons of "The Real Housewives of Orange County" and shared two daughters, Ashley and Sophie, with her husband, George. Joshua-Michael was Peterson's eldest child.
