AceShowbiz - Kanye West's lucrative Yeezy brand recently faced a setback when an LA pop-up allegedly attempted to profit from stolen YZY GAP merchandise. American Apparel founder Dov Charney alerted authorities to the alleged theft, sparking a heated confrontation captured on video.
Charney accused the organizers of the pop-up of selling Ye's clothing illegally, prompting police intervention. The YZY GAP pop-up, promoted by Urban Necessities and SRGN Studios, claimed to offer over 60,000 items for sale at a discounted price of $20. However, it was quickly shut down by the Los Angeles Police Department after receiving a report of potential theft.
Authorities confirmed an ongoing investigation into the pop-up's operations. Ye himself seemingly supported the allegations by sharing Charney's video on his Instagram Story.
Meanwhile, SRGN Studios and Urban Necessities released a joint statement claiming they had been "exonerated" by the LAPD and announced plans to reopen the pop-up. However, the acquisition of the YZY GAP merchandise by the companies remains unclear following the dissolution of the Yeezy and GAP partnership, leaving behind unsold inventory. The status of the investigation and any potential charges against the pop-up organizers are yet to be determined.
The pop-up in Los Angeles came after Ye's team said that they have lost over $1 million worth of their clothing, suggesting that the pieces had been stolen from their warehouse in the city. Ye's employee Milo Yiannopoulos told TMZ that "people in the rapper's camp noticed" approximately 60,000 pieces of clothes, worth around $1.2 million, in the warehouse "went missing a couple days ago."
