AceShowbiz - Ashlee Simpson has reflected on her infamous "Saturday Night Live" fiasco. The singer said the scandal was such a "humbling moment" for her because it halted her budding career.
"I think I had the No 1 song, and everything was about to go somewhere, and then it was just like, 'Whoa,' " the 39-year-old said in the Monday, February 19, episode of the "Broad Ideas With Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen" podcast. "The humility of not even understanding what grown-a** people would say about you - like grown men - awful, awful things."
Ashlee claimed she lost her around that time, saying she couldn't speak after waking up. After seeing a voice doctor, she said they found "two nodules beating against each other." She recalled, "That day I said, 'I will not go on, I don't care. I can't speak.' ... Meanwhile, I'm not saying this. I'm writing it down, because I can't talk."
Still, Ashlee was allegedly pushed to perform. "And I think that moment of having to do something, but then I think, looking back, I would go, 'The power of my no and the power of me saying, 'Absolutely not.' That's what I would go back and say," she elaborated.
Ashlee made her "SNL" debut in October 2004 as the evening's musical guest, alongside host Jude Law. She first sang "Pieces of Me" with no issue. As she and her band began to cue up the second song, however, the vocal track for "Pieces of Me" began to play again instead. While the song cut out within seconds, fans were quick to point out that Ashlee had been lip-syncing.
Ashlee made her return to the NCB comedy sketch show in October 2005, but she can't find a trace of it on the internet. "I went back to SNL with my second album and I can't find it anywhere. I've searched and searched for that performance," she said. "I was really nervous when I was on there and I can't find it anywhere."
