Alongside his dad Louie, Elmo is seen chatting with the morning talk show's hosts about the importance of mental health resources when the 'Seinfeld' actor suddenly approaches him.

AceShowbiz - Larry David made everyone's jaws drop when he unexpectedly beat Elmo on "Today". The actor, who was there to promote the final season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm", crashed the show to aggressively attack the puppet in the Thursday, February 1 episode of the morning talk show.

Alongside his dad Louie, Elmo was seen chatting with hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin about the importance of mental health resources. As the show was transitioning to Al Roker's weather segment, things took a violent turn when Larry suddenly stepped into the studio.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait," Hoda could be heard saying. Al, meanwhile, looked both confused and shocked before the camera cut back to the anchors to show the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" creator smushing in the red furry puppet's face.

The three hosts looked totally surprised by the sudden scuffle with Savannah saying, "Oh, my gosh, you love Elmo, don't you?" Melvin, meanwhile, exclaimed, "Oh, my God!" Louie then said, "Ask permission before you touch people, Larry."

Savannah added, "Larry, you've gone too far this time." In the background, David jokingly defended himself, "Somebody had to do it."

While Larry didn't show remorse right away, hosts Savannah and Hoba managed to get the "Seinfeld" star to apologize to Elmo later in the episode. "Do you have something you want to say to Elmo… from the heart?" Savannah asked, to which Larry jokingly replied, "From where? What organ are you talking about?"

Larry eventually issued an apology to the poor puppet, saying, "Elmo, I just want to apologize." The Sesame Street resident responded, "Thank you, Larry. Elmo accepts your apology."

Viewers, meanwhile, had mixed reactions to Larry's antics in the viral clip. "I felt like I was watching Will Smith all over again. Very sad," one Instagram user said, referring to the Oscars slap incident when Will slapped Chris Rock on the stage. "Although you tried to play it off, Larry David totally messed it up…guess no one told him the theme of the segment," one other wrote.

"I must say, I was shocked - it was cringe worthy," a third added. "I love Larry David, but he should have stayed seated until his own segment."
