AceShowbiz - The 2024 Golden Globe Awards has already started honoring its winners at its star-studded event. Hosted by Jo Koy at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, January 7, the award-giving ceremony saw Robert Downey Jr., Ali Wong, Steven Yeun and Da'Vine Joy Randolph among the early winners.

The first award of the night went to Randolph, who was named as the winner of Best Supporting Female Actor - Motion Picture for her performance in "The Holdovers". She was against Emily Blunt ("Oppenheimer"), Danielle Brooks ("The Color Purple"), Jodie Foster ("Nyad"), Julianne Moore ("May December") and Rosamund Pike ("Saltburn").

In her speech, Randolph mentioned "The Holdovers" director Alexander Payne as well as co-stars Paul Giamatti and Dominic Sessa. "To Alexander Payne, thank you for giving me the opportunity to portray this beautiful and flawed woman," she shared. Calling Giamatti and Sessa her "partners in crime," the Mary Lamb depicter thanked them for being "an absolute dream to work with, and I thank you for making me a better artist because of it."

Later, Downey Jr. was revealed to be Golden Globes' pick for Best Supporting Male Actor - Motion Picture for his role in "Oppenheimer". The actor, who played Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan-directed movie, won the category after edging out fellow nominees including Willem Dafoe ("Poor Things"), Robert De Niro ("Killers of the Flower Moon"), Ryan Gosling ("Barbie"), Charles Melton ("May December") and Mark Ruffalo ("Poor Things").

During his award acceptance speech, the "Iron Man" star joked that he'd taken a "beta blocker, so this is gonna be a breeze," before calling his victory "a most-improved-player thing." He also gave his wife Susan Downey a loving shout-out, saying that she has "literally made an art out of extracting me from my comfort zone. ... But she's easy on the eyes, so whatevs."

In the TV department, meanwhile, Yeun and Wong were the first two actors to receive honors that night, both for their roles on "Beef". Yeun was given the award for Best Male Actor - Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture, while Wong was honored with Best Female Actor - Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture trophy. On the Netflix series, Yeun plays Danny Cho, a struggling contractor of Korean background with Wong portraying Amy Lau, a small business owner. Conflict between them arises after they are involved in a road rage incident.

After winning the award, which marks his first Golden Globes trophy, Yeun made sure to honor his family in his speech. "The story I usually tell of myself, to myself, is one of isolation and separateness and then you come up here and you have this moment, and you can only just think about everyone else and that feels like the plot of 'Frozen (2013)'," he said. "Shoutout to my daughter Ruthie, family movie night!"

"I'm just so thankful. I'm just the recipient of a long line of compassion and love and protection and goodwill, so I appreciate this," he continued. "Joanna, I love you. You are my strength."

As for Wong, she received a hug and kiss from her boyfriend Bill Hader before she made her way to the stage. "I really need to thank Sunny so much for creating such a beautiful show and inviting me to be a part of it, and the friendship that I made with you and Steven and [Jake Schreier] and the rest of the cast and crew will always be the best thing that came out of 'Beef'," she said in her speech.

Wong also expressed gratitude to ex-husband Justin Hakuta. "I really need to thank the father of my children and my best friend, Justin, for all of your love and support. It's because of you that I'm able to be a working mother," she added. This is also Wong's first Golden Globes win.
