AceShowbiz - Gerard Pique didn't mince his words while speaking about his ex Shakira and her fans. In a new interview, the former soccer star was asked how he handled public criticism following his split from the "Waka Waka" singer in June 2022 due to his infidelity.
"In the beginning, it was bad and it reached a point where if I had let things get to me, I would have thrown myself off a cliff," Gerard admitted in his native Spanish on a Twitch Livestream that was shared via Twitter on Monday, April 3. He went on to say that it was his nonchalant attitude that saved his mental health.
"I am very disappointed with what society is," the 36-year-old continued. "So my ex is Latin American … you don't know what I've gotten on social media from her fans. These people have no lives. Thousands of barbarities."
He further explained in the April 1 sit-down that "95 percent" of people's issues arise when they "tend to care about things that aren't that important." He said that the only things worth worrying about are "serious health issues, family and relationships."
Gerard, who shares sons Milan (10) and Sasha (8) with the "Hips Don't Lie" hitmaker, added, "I don't care about anything, really. It's zero. It's people who don't have lives. How much care should you give them? It's zero. You won't ever know them in real life. They're like robots."
The interview was conducted before Shakira announced her decision to move away from Barcelona after receiving an eviction letter from Gerard's dad Joan Pique. "I settled in Barcelona to give my children a stability, the same we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea," the 46-year-old star wrote on Sunday, April 2.
"Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness," the "Beautiful Liar" singer added. She further thanked her friends in the city by stating, "Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside my many waves there in Barcelona. The city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love."
The Colombian singer continued, "Thank you to everyone who has been there to cheer me up, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow. Thank you to my Spanish audience who have always wrapped me in their love and loyalty." She concluded her note by saying, "For you just a see you later and as my father said so many times, see you around the curves!"
