Colin Farrell is named Best Actor for his role in 'The Banshees of Inisherin', Steven Spielberg nabs Best Director award for his work on 'The Fabelmans', while 'Avatar: The Way of Water' gets a huge boost.

AceShowbiz - National Board of Review has revealed its pick of the top films of 2022, with "Top Gun: Maverick" getting the biggest honor. The Tom Cruise-starring movie has been named the Best Film by the non-profit organization, in addition to winning Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for Claudio Miranda's work.
The biggest acting prizes went to Colin Farrell, who was named Best Actor for his role in "The Banshees of Inisherin", and Michelle Yeoh, who nabbed Best Actress kudo for her role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once". "The Banshees of Inisherin" received three awards in total, including Best Supporting Actor for Brendan Gleeson and Best Original Screenplay for Martin McDonagh.
Steven Spielberg was dubbed the Best Director for his work on "The Fabelmans". The coming-of-age drama film earned another gong for Breakthrough Performance for lead actor Gabriel LaBelle, who stars as a 16-year-old of a Jewish family who aspires to become a filmmaker.
Danielle Deadwyler also won Breakthrough Performance award for her portrayal of Mamie Till-Bradley, Emmett Till's mother, in the biographical drama "Till".
Almost all the winning movies are included in the organization's list of 10 top films of the year. "Avatar: The Way of Water" is the only exception as it is not released yet in theaters by the time the award winners were announced, but already received a huge boost by making into the list.
Over the last 30 years, the winner of Best Film has gone on to receive an Oscar nomination for best picture, with a few exceptions such as 2014's "A Most Violent Year", 2000's "Quills" and 1998's "Gods and Monsters". Two NBR Best Actor winners in the last 12 years have also translated to Oscar winners. They were Casey Affleck for "Manchester by the Sea" (2016) and Will Smith for "King Richard" (2021).
