The YouTube comedian-turned-singer/songwriter scores his third Top 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart thanks to his third album, 'Smithereens', which arrived on November 4.

AceShowbiz - Joji's hard work on his third studio album, "Smithereens", has paid off. Upon its release on November 4, the project topped the Billboard Alternative Albums chart and landed at the No. 5 spot on the Billboard 200 after earning 57,000 equivalent album units, marking his third Top 5 on the list.

Making its way out via 88rising / Warner Records, the new record also arrived at No. 2 on the Spotify Top Albums U.S.A. chart. It also entered the Top 5 list in Australia (No. 3) and Norway (No. 4), while debuting in the Top 15 in Sweden (No. 11), U.K. (No.13) and Ireland (No. 15).

The YouTube comedian-turned-singer/songwriter released "Smithereens" as the follow-up to his 2020 sophomore album "Nectar". It was preceded by singles "Glimpse of Us" and "Yukon", the former of which became Joji's most successful hit single to date. It's also the first song by an Asian artist to reach No. 1 on Spotify Global, remaining for 10 consecutive days.

In addition, the chilling piano ballad serves as the second song by a Japanese artist to reach the top 10 after Kyu Sakamoto's "Sukiyaki" in 1963. The tune arrived with a chaotic music video directed by Dan Streit who detailed, "Joji had an idea for making a video that would be hand-held, shaky, where you're following a group of kids and there's lots of fast cutting and destruction."

"So I found a good, cheap camera that we could get a bunch of to send around to cool subjects," the video director added. "And so certain ones worked and others didn't, but the ideas evolved as we went along."

Aside from the abovementioned tracks, the two-part album consists of seven other songs. They are "Feeling Like the End", "Die for You", "Before the Day Is Over", "Dissolve", "Night Rider", "BlahBlahBlah Demo" and "1AM Freestyle".
