Although Bella has not told fans the context behind the images, she previously spoke publicly about her battle with Lyme disease. Earlier this year, the model, who first unveiled her health issue in 2016, explained that while struggling with the symptoms of Lyme disease over the past three years has been difficult, she still [does] "have good days."

After sharing photos of herself crying on Instagram, Bella told Vanity Fair, "I would have really depressive episodes and my mom or my doctor would ask how I was and instead of having to respond in text, I would just send them a photo." She further explained, "It was the easiest thing for me to do at the time because I was never able to explain how I was feeling. I would just be in excruciating and debilitating mental and physical pain, and I didn't know why. That was over the past three years."
