In a magazine's cover story, the 'Game of Thrones' alum admits that social media plays a big part in her mental disorder, and she wishes she never got herself involved with it.

AceShowbiz - Sophie Turner used to need more than a regular therapy appointment to keep her eating disorder in check. Opening up more on the topic of mental health issue, the former "Game of Thrones" star revealed that she once had a live-in therapist to help her in her recovery from unhealthy eating habits.

The 26-year-old opened up about the matter in the June cover story of ELLE Magazine. "For a long time, I was quite sick with an eating disorder and I had a companion." she spilled, "I don't know if you know what a companion is? It's a live-in therapist, who would ensure I wasn't doing anything unhealthy with my eating habits."

Sophie then shared the best advice she got from the therapist that changed her perspective in her struggle with mental health. "One night, I was playing over and over in my mind a comment I'd seen on Instagram. I was like, 'I'm so fat, I'm so undesirable,' and spinning out," she recalled, "She said to me, 'You know, no one actually cares. I know you think this, but nobody else is thinking it. You're not that important.' That was the best thing anyone could have told me."

The "Dark Phoenix" actress no longer lived with her therapist, but she still actively goes to therapy. "I still have to do it every week," she told the magazine, " Occasionally, I go on a retreat to check myself, and I still have days when I feel depressed or anxious. It's manageable now, I have the tools. I know what's good for me and what's not good for me. I know what I have to do to get myself in a good headspace. It's not debilitating -- I know how to get myself out of it."

Elsewhere in the interview published on Wednesday, May 4, Sophie also touched on what caused her eating disorder. "I have a love-hate relationship with social media. I wish I'd never got myself involved with it in the first place," she confessed, "I look at the comments on Instagram and think, 'Oh, f**k. Everyone thinks this about me.' It would completely consume me."

Aware of social media's negative impact on her well-being, Sophie noted that she tries to distance herself from it. "Having it off my phone has been so helpful," the wife of Joe Jonas shared, "Now, if I do have to go on it, it's for a few minutes once or twice a week, rather than hours every day. It's made such a difference. Live real life -- it's much more fun."
