The famed actress, theater production and politician never regained consciousness after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage in the middle of filming a telenovela in November.

AceShowbiz - Mexican actress and politician Carmen Salinas has passed away at 82 years old. The celebrated figure died on Thursday, December 9, nearly a month after suffering a stroke that left her in a coma.
The news of her passing was announced by her family on Instagram and Twitter. "For his painful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world," the note, which ran over a black-and-white picture of the late star, began.
It continued, "With deep sorrow, we inform you that the top actress Carmen Salinas, has passed away today, December 9, 2021. Details about funeral services will be provided later," thanking fans and paying homage to her massive impact over six decades in the Mexican entertainment industry.
Carmen suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in November, while filming TV melodrama "Mi fortuna es amarte", on which she played the grand dame role of Dona Margarita Dominguez. Actresses such as Silvia Pinal and Ana Martin are reportedly being considered as replacements to take over what now would be her final role.
When she suffered a stroke, her nephew and personal assistant Gustavo Briones Gonzalez said in a statement on November 10, "The Salinas family shares with them that the leading actress, Mrs. Carmen Salinas, is going through a difficult health situation, which is why she remains in the intensive care area where specialist doctors treat her."
It added, "Because of the respect and affection that my aunt expresses to the press, they will be kept informed about the state of health and evolution." Carmen remained in a medically induced coma before passing away.
Carmen, who also worked as a comedian, impressionist and theater entrepreneur, started her acting career as a child in the 1950s. She had starred in a string of comedic TV soaps and appeared in numerous films, such as 2004's "Man on Fire" with Denzel Washington.
She is survived by her daughter Maria Eugenia and seven grandchildren. Her son Pedrito a.k.a. Pedro died of cancer in 1994.
