AceShowbiz - CNN has suspended anchorman Chris Cuomo for an indefinite time. According to a statement on Tuesday, November 30, the decision was made due to his alleged involvement in his brother and former New York governor Andrew Cuomo's sexual harassment scandal.
"The New York Attorney General's office released transcripts and exhibits Monday that shed new light on Chris Cuomo's involvement in his brother's defense," the CNN spokesperson said of the "Cuomo Prime Time" presenter. "The documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions."
According to the spokesperson, Chris "admitted" to the network that he had "offered advice" to his brother's staff. "He broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly. But we also appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second," the spokesperson said.
"However, these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we previously knew," the CNN spokesperson added. "As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation."
Andrew resigned from his position as New York governor on August 24. "I think that given the circumstances the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to government," he said in a press conference back in August 10. "And therefore, that is what I'll do, because I work for you, and doing the right thing, is doing the right thing for you." Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul has been filling in the void position.
On August 3, 11 women accused Andrew of "a pattern of inappropriate conduct" with an executive assistant. He previously denied the allegations, insisting, "I want you to know directly from me that I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances."
