The series based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's 1990 novel is confirmed to return for an upcoming sophomore installment following a renewal by Amazon Studios.

AceShowbiz - "Good Omens" has been greenlit at Amazon Studios for season two.

Actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant are set to return in the second outing of the fantasy epic, produced by Amazon and BBC Studios, which will go beyond the original story in Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's 1990 novel, "Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch."

Gaiman is also returning to serve as co-showrunner with Douglas Mackinnon and co-writer with John Finnemore, and the new six-episode season will begin filming in Scotland later in 2021.

"It's 31 years since Good Omens was published, which means it's 32 years since Terry Pratchett and I lay in our respective beds in a Seattle hotel room at a World Fantasy Convention, and plotted the sequel," said Gaiman in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. "I got to use bits of the sequel in Good Omens - that's where our angels came from. Terry's not here any longer, but when he was, we had talked about what we wanted to do with Good Omens, and where the story went next. And now, thanks to BBC Studios and Amazon, I get to take it there."

Season two will explore storylines that go beyond the original source material to explore the friendship between Aziraphale, a conservative angel and rare book dealer, and hard-living demon Crowley (Tennant).

Pratchett, co-writer of the source material, died from Alzheimer's disease aged 66, in 2015.
