The actor who will play Prince Philip in the final two seasons of 'The Crown' has received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for his services to drama and charity.

AceShowbiz - "The Two Popes" star Jonathan Pryce is beyond thrilled with his latest title, Sir, after landing a top award in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

The Oscar-nominated Welsh actor, who will play Queen Elizabeth II's late husband Prince Phillip in the final two seasons of "The Crown", has been awarded a knighthood for his services to drama and charity, and admits the honour means a great deal to him.

"That the U.K. continues to honour those that work in the arts, acknowledges the great contribution artists make to the way we live our lives," he said. "The arts remind people to be kinder, more understanding, questioning and to be more empathetic."

Pryce was honoured on Friday (11Jun21) alongside singers Lulu, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Alison Moyet, cellist Julian Lloyd Webber, musician Rick Wakeman, and actress Ruth Wilson.

Humperdinck called his MBE medal "a dream come true" and dedicated the honour to his late wife, Patricia, who died following a battle with COVID in February.

"I never thought that I would be a success in my life but it happened," the "Release Me" singer said. "I never thought I would be honoured and it happened. My wife would have been absolutely delighted. I wish she was sharing this honour with me."

Former Yazoo star Moyet called her MBE a "remarkable, happy-making 60th birthday surprise" ahead of her milestone celebration next week (beg14Jun21).

Ruth Wilson was also made an MBE for her services to drama while Lulu was given a CBE for services to music, entertainment, and charity.

Others awarded new titles from the Queen include beloved TV presenter Prue Leith and dancer and choreographer Arlene Phillips. Both were given damehoods by the Queen.
