YouTuber Colleen Ballingers Apologizes for 'Past Mistakes': I'll Continue to Learn
Celebrity

Titled 'addressing everything', the video sees Ballingers talking about the controversial video of her and her then-teenage sister pretending to be Latinx women among other things.

AceShowbiz - YouTube star Colleen Ballingers shows remorse over her "past mistakes." In a recent video, Ballingers, who is more known as Miranda Sings, apologized for her character which she said was "completely based in racial stereotypes."

Titled "addressing everything", the Tuesday, May 12 video saw Ballingers admitting that her and her then-teenage sister pretending to be Latinx women "is not funny, and it is completely hurtful." She added, "I am so ashamed and embarrassed that I ever thought this was okay."

"I was a sheltered teenager who was stupid and ignorant and clearly extremely culturally insensitive," she continued. Ballingers also shared that she and her sister eventually deleted the video years after they made it as they realized that what they did was not right and didn't want anyone to be "hurt" by it. She denied speculations that she did so to avoid controversy.

Ballingers also addressed the time when she spoke about an overweight woman whom she sat next to on a flight 12 years ago. While she admitted to making some derogatory remarks, she said "that is not the woman I am today."

Among other things she talked in the video was about her putting down a dog that bit her as a child, saying that she still felt guilty towards her dog's death "to this day as a 33-year-old woman." She continued, "To anyone and everyone who was hurt or offended by the statements I made when I was younger, I am so, so sorry. I hope you all can see that the person I am today is so far from the person I was a decade ago."

Before concluding her video, Ballingers set the record straight about Adam Mcintyre's claims. The 17-year-old fan from Ireland accused the YouTuber of not paying him for content he scripted. Additionally, he said that Ballingers sent him her underwear and bras in the mail instead.

She said that she didn't immediately address Mcintyre's concerns "to respect the wishes" of his mother. She, however, admitted to sending him bra and underwear. "It was a big joke within the fandom," she explained. "In my mind at the time, this was no different than all the other weird stuff I send to my fans as a joke. Now in hindsight, I see how completely stupid of me. I should have never sent that," she said.

Ballingers ended her video saying that she would "continue to learn" from her mistakes.
