Stopping by 'The Tonight Show' along with his boy band members, AJ McLean tells host Jimmy Fallon that the 'First Man' actor shared his opinion about the when they were playing basketball.

AceShowbiz - Ryan Gosling was convinced the Backstreet Boys would be just another failed boy band.

Singer AJ McLean was living with the former "The Mickey Mouse Club" star when his band was taking off, and reveals Gosling had few kind words of encouragement.

"We used to live in the same apartment complex when he was doing The Mickey Mouse Club," AJ told Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon". "Him (Gosling), Justin (Timberlake), Christina (Aguilera), Britney (Spears), all of them (lived in the building). We were playing basketball almost every other day."

"The group had started. I kept telling him (Ryan) how big this was gonna be. And he’s like, 'Dude. New Kids (on the Block) already did it. This is never gonna work. Just shoot the ball'."

"Cut to he was wrong and it did work," McLean quipped, with his bandmate Nick Carter adding: "It worked out for him (Ryan) too."

The Backstreet Boys formed in 1993 and went on to sell more than 100 million records worldwide.
