New South Wales police have confirmed the Australian star's death through a statement, revealing that his body was discovered last week on August 14, just a day before his birthday. He was 41.
In the statement, police disclosed that Ben was found unresponsive in his home in Minyon Falls, Whian Whian near Nimbin after calls were made about his welfare. The statement read, "Police attended Minyon Falls, Whian Whian, responding to a concern for welfare. The body of a 41-year-old man was located. The death has not been treated as suspicious."
The cause of his death is currently unknown, though there are rumors that Ben took his own life.
Several celebrities have sent their condolences after learning of his passing. Ada Nicodemour, one of his former "Home and Away" co-stars, said, "I just woke up to the tragic news of Ben's passing, my heart goes out to his family." Meanwhile, Lynne McGranger said, "What a terrible tragedy. Sending my deepest condolences to his family and friends."
Fans were also heartbroken over the news. "Devastated to hear this news. Ben was an utterly lovely guy. I'm so sad he felt there was no other way for him. Rest in peace, mate," one wrote. Ben was best known for portraying Jesse McGregor on soap opera "Home and Away" from 1996 until 2000, and again from 2002 to 2005. For his portrayal of Jesse, he was nominated for the Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent in 1997 and for a British National Television Award for Most Popular Newcomer.
He had a change of career after leaving the show, working as a senior solicitor after completing his law degree.
