The embattled soul singer is reportedly indicted on 13 counts, including charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice, during the arrest on Thursday.

AceShowbiz - R. Kelly is facing new charges amid his already long list of alleged crimes. On Thursday, July 11, the disgraced singer was arrested by New York Police Department detectives and Department of Homeland Security agents in Chicago on federal sex crime charges, according to two law enforcement officials.

Joseph Fitzpatrick, a spokesperson for The U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District, says the charges are part of a 13-count indictment from the Northern District of Illinois. The indictment includes charges of child porn and obstruction of justice. The 52-year-old star was allegedly receiving and manufacturing child pornography.

Kelly is expected to be brought to New York soon. His spokesperson and legal team have not responded to reports of the arrest.

Kelly was previously indicted in Chicago on 21 counts of child pornography in June 2002, but a Chicago jury found Kelly not guilty in June 2008. He was also arrested in January 2003 on allegations that he was involved in sexual conduct with an underage girl, but the charges were dropped in March 2004 due to a lack of probable cause for the search warrants.

In 2017, sex cult allegations against Kelly surfaced after alleged victims of sex abuse came forward in six-part Lifetime documentary "Surviving R. Kelly", which aired in 2019. While he continues to deny the sex cult allegations, he was charged on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Illinois in February this year stemming from incidents that happened between 1998 to 2010 involving four females, three of whom were teen minors at the time. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on a $1 million bail after spending two nights in jail. He's also ordered to have no contact with any minor under 18 or alleged victim.
