The former 'High School Musical' star will take over Rachel McAdams' role in the new stage production that will take place at the Martel Theater at New York's Vassar College.

AceShowbiz - Actress Vanessa Hudgens is set to take on Rachel McAdams' role in "The Notebook" for a stage reading of the planned musical adaptation.

"Girls Chase Boys" hitmaker Ingrid Michaelson has teamed up with writer/producer Bekah Brunstetter to transform the film, which was originally based on Nicholas Sparks' 1996 book, into an all-singing, all-dancing affair, which they hope to take to Broadway.

Now former "High School Musical" star Hudgens has signed on to lead the cast in a special live reading of the new production, which will take place at the Martel Theater at New York's Vassar College on June 23.

The actress, who also showed off her vocal talents in "Grease Live" and "Rent (2019)" Live TV specials, will tackle the part of Middle Allie, while Broadway actress Hailey Kilgore will feature as a younger version of the character, and Cabaret's Andy Buckley will play Older Allie.

Actors Antonio Cipriano, Clifton Duncan, and James Naughton will play Noah at the three different stages of his life.

Ryan Gosling brought Noah to life onscreen in the hit 2004 romantic drama.

Author Sparks will produce the stageshow alongside "Rent" producer Kevin McCollum and Kurt Deutsch.

An official premiere date for the musical production, which centres on a man and woman's lifelong romance and marriage - and her battle with memory-depriving Alzheimer's disease, is expected to be announced in the near future.
