AceShowbiz - Thor's story arc may be one of those that serve humor in "Avengers: Endgame", but there's another joke involving the character that fans unfortunately didn't get a chance to see. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently revealed that Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson improvised a funny bit that didn't make a cut into the final film.
Speaking with EW Morning Live on Sirius XM 105, the Russo brothers said the deleted scene took place during the moment when Thor turns over leadership of New Asgard to Valkyrie, before taking off to space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. As he bids his farewell, Thor misunderstands Valkyrie's friendly gesture.
"He had this beat with Valkryie where she puts her arm on his shoulder and he sort of starts to lean in for a kiss. She goes, 'What are you doing?' " Anthony told hosts Jessica Shaw and Dalton Ross. He went on describing the bit, " 'Oh, I thought that touch...' and she was like, 'No, that was, like, a goodbye tap I was giving you' It was a really funny beat, but we cut it."
Joe chimed in, "It was really cute. And it was mostly improvised by the two of them, so it was very funny."
As to why the scene was cut from the final sequence of the movie if it was that funny, the helmers explained that it was due to the already long runtime. "In the ending, we wanted to keep it tight, so we were looking for things to squeeze there," Anthony said.
Without the said "cute" moment of Thor and Valkyrie, "Avengers: Endgame" clocks in 181 minutes or a little over three hours, making it the longest movie in Marvel history. That, however, didn't lessen fans' excitement to watch the movie as it has grossed $2.3 billion globally so far.
