AceShowbiz - TV mogul David Milch has secretly been battling Alzheimer's disease.
The "NYPD Blue" and "Deadwood" creator has gone public with his health crisis in a candid new interview with Vulture.com, revealing he and his loved ones began noticing symptoms five years ago.
"(There were instances of) imperfect recall and tardy recall and short temper," he says. "I became more and more of an acquired taste."
The ailment also affected his ability to write, and last year (2018), he finally decided to seek help from doctors, who gave him a brain scan and confirmed his worst fears.
"As best I understand it, which is minimally, I have a deterioration in the organisation of my brain," Milch explains. "And it's progressive. And in some ways discouraging."
Despite his personal struggles, the 74-year-old was able to complete the screenplay for the upcoming "Deadwood" film adaptation, and U.S. network bosses at HBO have expressed their support for the star as he continues to fight the illness.
"We treasure our relationship with David Milch, a beloved and long-standing member of the HBO family," a representative shares in a statement. "We honour David's privacy and stand by his side in every way as he faces this challenge."
"Deadwood: The Movie", which features the return of series stars Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant, is set to premiere on May 31, more than a decade after the Emmy Award-winning Western series was axed by HBO officials.
