Thanks to his mega hit 'Old Town Road', the up-and-coming rapper rises to superstardom as the song leaps into the top of Billboard's Hot 100 chart and dethrones Ariana Grande's eight-week reign.

AceShowbiz - Starting off his career as an internet personality through his Nicki Minaj fan accounts, Lil Nas X has become a viral sensation that brings change to the country music game. The up-and-coming rapper quickly rose to superstardom thanks to his country trap hit "Old Town Road", a track that blended hip-hop beats and R&B vocals with banjo twanging and cowboy lyrics.

Considering that it was really rare to hear a country and hip-hop blended music, "Old Town Road" was met with controversy after Billboard removed it from Hot Country Songs chart because it didn't "embrace enough elements of today's country music." But that did not Nas as he turned that controversy into a benefit. The song grew more popular after he released a remix featuring none other than famed country star Billy Ray Cyrus.

From there, his song garnered so much listeners that it leaped into the top of Billboard's Hot 100 chart and dethroned Ariana Grande's eight-week reign at No. 1. With that, he became the first solo artist to top the chart on a first try since Cardi B did the same with her hit "Bodak Yellow" in 2017. He also became the first artist to make the swiftest ascent to No. 1 on the chart for an act with prior Hot 100 history at all since 2013. At the time, Baauer did it with his mega hit "Harlem Shake".

Moreover, "Old Town Road" is about to smash the single-week streaming record garnered by Drake for "God's Plan", which stood at 127,000 streams. As of Friday, the original and remix of "Old Town Road" were sitting at 125,000 collectively.

Nas is currently preparing to release a new remix of "Old Town Road" with Young Thug as more country stars and fellow musicians continue to heap praises on him. Will Smith even expressed his interest to star in the music video for the song.
